Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.’
(St Matthew chapter 28 verse 19)
â–º BAPTISM (commonly known as CHRISTENING)
Baptisms take place at St Edward's Church on the SECOND Sunday of the month at 12.15pm.
• What does baptism mean?
A Baptism service is a special occasion in which Christians believe those being baptised begin their journey of faith. We thank God for the child, parents & godparents make important decisions for the child, and we welcome them into the family of the church. It is a commitment to the Christian faith.
• What is the difference between Christening and Baptism?
There is no difference. Christening is a traditional term to ‘make the child a Christian’ - or to give them a Christian name. Baptism is the original term we use in the church today.
